Annual Drag Races Poplar Lake

On Saturday
the racing began at noon. Many local snowmobilers and out-of-towners
started to gather at 9:30 to tune and prepare their sleds.
There
was a good turn-out, though it was less than last year, probably
because another large event was taking place at the same time,
Carbine's Fishcake Party on McFarland Lake was the same day. It was
single digit temps with a 15 below windchill, at least it was sunny...
Harley Tofte from the Cook
County Snowmobile Club groomed two lanes for racing on Poplar Lake.
After the races most folks
gather in Windigo Lodge to warm-up and have some refreshments. Most of
us went to
Trail Center Lodge for dinner a few miles down the lake.
Dave "Disco" Larsen from the
Birch Terrace Lounge in downtown Grand Marais supplied the karaoke at
9pm.
